Welcome to the Hound!

‘The Hound’ is named for a class of canine, beloved to the gentry on a certain Emerald Isle, but also man’s best friend (not forgetting the ladies) here in Africa we find ourselves.

In particular, our Hound is 40kgs of lovable, goofy slobbery jowly “langwang” Weimaraner called Gracie who (often unsuccessfully) aspires to the essential Hound cool, notwithstanding her limitations.

She is very much loved, along with Stoffel, our ‘huishond’ Basset and both are well fed from many nice things emanation from the plates of once brave (faint-hearted?) diners who quail at our portioning.

Although we don’t subscribe to hunting (with hounds or not), we find the notion of country languidity that supposedly attends such activity attractive, and have chosen to create the space in which you find yourself with more than a nod to the English Country house notion, along with a healthy dose of ‘boereplaas’ to temper any possible affection.

If an effort to lighten the atmosphere, we approach the serious matter of culinary quality with more than a touch of ‘tong in kies’, reminding ourselves that life is better when some lightness of spirit is added.

Our meals are intended to be hearty repasts, and groaning plates and buffetiere are ‘de rigueur’ here.

Our principal mission at the Hound is to extract guests from a harried existence to a place where compromises are minimized, the clock slows just a bit, and nourishment of both body and spirit can proceed in an unhurried fashion.

To this end, lavish attentions are expended on the preparation and presentation of our dishes.

Great care is applied to getting things ‘just right’, thus presenting guests with an all-round quality experience.

Alas, these efforts do not sit well with those desiring a ‘quick’ meal and so we apologize in advance for the time it will take to serve your food.

A wait of 40 minutes is not unusual, so sit back, relax, enjoy the atmosphere, your co-diners, and allow us to do what we do best.

Complimentary wi-fi is available for 30 minutes.
